Big Gay Ice Cream Truck

Again, when editing this story, I took out most of the quotes by other people that weren't vital to the information of the story. I concentrated on making sure to get all of his quotes and then more positive reactions to his Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. I also faded in and faded out at the end. I kept a lot of the music at the end because I thought it went well with the end of the story and of course, the story content.

Tajik Jimmy rocks my world.

I decided to cut out alot of his actual singing but still give a good variety of his different singing techniques. I also started the story a little later without the background information at the beginning because I felt the story should be more strictly about Jimmy and his singing. I cut it down to just get the details without too many that weren't vital to the story which was about his singing and his record deal. I used a few fades to help with coming into and out of the story.

Storytelling - Ira Glass

Ira talks from the very beginning about the "evolution" of how you decide to write/produce/tell a story. He says to forget what you learned in high school, that it is not so much of a standardized formula which I think is very important when you are developing your storytelling abilities for broadcasting.

I thought it was interesting when he spoke about the anecdote. That one thing happens that leads to another that leads to another. Also, that you should always be answering questions. When he speaks about how it is difficult to find a good story to explore I definitely can relate to this.

Having to do applications last semester with the paper and then doing Campus Watch this semester, it is often difficult to come up with ideas for stories that are different and exciting and not just the usual old stuff. He says that, "often more time is spent finding the story than producing it." This is SO true.

I love at the end when he is talking about people who get in to either TV or radio and think they have to "act" or "sound" like other people who are in the business. Working in radio, I can totally see how alot of people do this. When I am on-air I try to not be "cheesy radio voice" girl because when people do that we all make fun of them so bad!

All of his information, including to be more concise in your storytelling is something that I definitely need to remember. I tend to not only ramble, but be a little dramatic. Sometimes less is more.

Multimedia in the workplace

I currently DJ at 94.9 The Outlaw and it is definitely a career path I would like to continue to pursue. It is easy for me to see the numerous forms of multimedia that is being used in the radio business. We use a large array of different audio sources to manipulate voices for commercials or also to manipulate different audio sound effects. Also, knowledge of website design is also very important. We send listeners to the website all the time to check out all the information on whats going on around town.

This site has different voice over talents. Most voice over artists use some sort of audio mixing depending on the audio they are recording.

I have had the opportunity to do quite a few voice over jobs for commercials here in town and would like to continue doing so independently after school.

I felt like it would be pretty hard to make the decision on which photos from an ENTIRE year of amazing events to include in a "year in review" photo story. In this case, it is narrowed down to the UN so that does make it a little easier for the producer. I felt like the collection was not only emotion provoking but was a very ecletic mix of everything going on in the world.

The story is not all just blood and guts and devastation. The collection also features snapshots of political figures and how it is relatable. The writings with the photos are also effective in the message it is trying to portray. It still allows the reader to get their own emotional response while being informed.

The only thing I would suggest doing a little bit different would be to include a few more pictures in the collection. It seemed a little strange to me that it was so short, although it did leave me wanting to search the website for more which might have been the intent.
